SALT RIVER PIMA-MARICOPA INDIAN COMMUNITY – After careful consideration, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community is announcing the closures of two tribally-owned and operated enterprises. On Sept. 4, 2008 Red Mountain Trap & Skeet and Secured Vehicle Storage closed their doors.

“The business decision was made earlier this week but had been under review for a while,” said Martin Harvier, Vice President, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. “We understand the inconveniences the closure will cause to Trap and Skeet enthusiasts but it was in the best economic interest of the Community to close the facilities and use the land for other purposes in the future.”

Compared to other Community-owned enterprises, Red Mountain Trap & Skeet and the Secured Vehicle Storage facility were relatively small ventures undertaken by the Community. A total of 15 employees were affected by the closures.

Located on 58 acres of Community land, Red Mountain Trap & Skeet, 15001 E. Beeline Highway, attracted regional sports enthusiasts. The facilities included: 5 Skeet fields and 13 Trap fields and two Sporting Clay Fields, a pro-shop and featured a 123-space RV park. The club first opened in the 1960’s and was originally named Beeline Trap and Skeet. In 1994 the Community acquired the gun club and it became an official Community owned and operated enterprise. Red Mountain Trap & Skeet was the only club in the nation owned by an American Indian community to throw registered clay targets.

Located near the intersection of McDowell Road and Beeline Highway, Secured Vehicle Storage, 11015 E. McDowell Road, housed automobiles, recreational vehicles and boats at its 5-acre facility on Community land. It first opened in 1986 and was developed with an outside partner before being turned back to the tribe in 1995. Customers that have rented spaces at the site will be notified and are being given 30 days to remove their personal property.

The Community plans to list specific information pertaining to any already paid deposit fees on the Red Mountain Trap & Skeet website: www.redmtntrap.com. For customer service, call (480) 990-9994.
